I did my first top end rebuild last year and I was so tired and accidentally tightened the head from the outside in, instead of inside out. Thankfully it worked 😂 Even been on cross state road trips

from my understanding in materials engineering classes, the tempering explanation does not make sense. Unless the first cycle was somehow much hotter, every cycle would see the same tempering process

long time mechanic here not professional but fix everything and follow procedures for things showing the three bolts in the sponge really explained it well to what you're actually doing and why
