@hermanjuliannahistorian: In 1559, after Bayezid started a rebellion against his brother and he wanted to kill Selim and his family, Sultan Süleyman openly designated his legitimate heir for the first and last time in his life: Şehzade Selim. If Selim did not survive the fight against Bayezid, his son, Süleyman’s grandson, Murat would succeed him on the throne, and if both, father and son had died, Süleyman's nephew Kara Osman-Şah would have been the next sultan. With this, Süleyman wanted to make it clear who he considered most worthy of the throne, as well as to confirm that the rebellious Bayezid could not ascend the throne under any circumstances. This was the only time Süleyman openly choose side and after his decision, Bayezid wanted to kill not only Selim and Murat, but he wanted to dethrone his father too. Selim won the battle against him, he was sultan between 1566 and 1574, he was known as Sarı (Blonde) Sultan Selim the kind, who loved arts, music and was a brilliant poet, who loved his concubine so much that he married her, like his Father. Who helped on the poor and took care of people, like his Mother. Who helped on Mahidevran Hatun, who called Nurbanu a Valide Sultan even in his lifetime.
