@pbsnews: Many future federal documents – including the next U.S. census – will be gaining extra options for race and ethnicity queries. Specifically, there will soon be “Middle Eastern or North African” and “Hispanic or Latino” categories. Within those categories, there will then be more specific groups like “Lebanese,” “Iraqi,” “Cuban,” or “Puerto Rican.” Arab Americans and other groups have been pushing for the change for decades, saying the current categories do not properly represent the more nuanced ways in which many Americans identify. Federal agencies have until 2029 to implement the new format, just in time for the 2030 census. #census #uscensus #uscensus2030 #diversity #minority #politics #uscensusbureau #pbsnews #news #newshour #pbsnewshour
