The dumbbells had my back when nobody else did. When I was at my lowest points I felt like I had nobody. I screamed at God asking why he chose me to go through the things I went through. Emotions behind closed doors that I’ve never really shared and probably never will. But one thing remained true. The gym was still there. At least I had that. It was an escape. I hate to call it therapy cause it sounds corny, but it truly was. No judgement, no limits, no distractions. Just me, the dumbbells and the man in the mirror. Bodybuilding at its core can feel egotistical and narcissistic. But for me it’s so much more than that. The accountability to yourself that gives you peace because you know you have some degree of control in the chaos of your other uncontrollable circumstances. Nothing else matters. Breathing, going through the motions, putting another minuscule .25lbs on the bar. I don’t know how such simplicity can bring such peace and satisfaction. But I do know that I wouldn’t be here without it. ❤️
