@saturdaymorningprops: Was really hoping the silicone molds would work! This technique technically works but a big struggle to get it going. From the beginning I knew that 3d pens were a great way to use up that last little bit but I thought that maybe the force of the glue gun would almost make it like an injection mold. Well clearly that didn't happen Soni have to give it to the 3d print pens. If you like to try random things like this type in 00meat in to thingiverse but otherwise I'd say skip it. I still don't think the AMS is the move for filament waste it cost 200+ to save .20 cents of filament which would take 1000 rolls to pay it off. Hope you enjoyed my failure 🤘 Love y'all #3dprints #3dprinted #3dprinting

What if you popped the silicone mold into a oven after filling it? The plastic would melt down and fill the mold properly

The reason 3D printing pens which are awful are awesome for welding is because the tip as you drag it along a join will heat the join and melt it a little before injecting its own melted filament.

I bought a cheap 3D printing pen and use my left over filament to do what you were trying to do. It works great and was $7 on Amazon.

I’m glad I didn’t make and filament sticks. I was tempted though.

I found several videos on tube. It seems there are stick models with rachet edge that feed better. Maybe feeding 1.75 it could work like a 3d pen

I bet if you add fuzzy skin to the glue sticks they’ll have more grip.

why not use a good hot glue gun and set the temperature

you need what we call in the liner industry a "shoe" on the end of the hot glue gun. check out demtech extruders for examples

With Bambu printers though, won't it just pause the print when filament runs out and you can feed it more and it'll resume where it left off? Id personally think that would be the best way to use the last little bit. Just let the print go until it runs out and replace it.

If you have a dremel: welding sticks are even less PLA and more effective for a good weld! Friction weld all the way!🥰

huh, too bad. your first video on this really made it sound like this was something you did all the time. Glad I didn't go down the rabbit hole trying to get this to work, buying things, etc.

I've also found welding with an old soldering iron and a length of filament to work well. But yeah, printing pens are a more concise solution

maybe make injection mold with some type of release so they don't stick to the mold and try the sticks?

I wonder if printing the sticks with 2% infill and not solid would help the hot glue gun melt the filiment easier. even thinner walls.

just use the left over to run a 3d pen. it does the same without the extra work and waste.
