@divorcesurgery: This is such a refreshing conversation between Rachel Bilson and @ashleesimpsonross on @Broad Ideas 🤩 It’s so nice to hear a lived experience of co-parenting which isn’t ex-bashing, but is positive and uplifting ☀️ Also, interesting to hear that Ashlee’s son was dividing his time between his parents on a 3 night/ 4 night weekly arrangement (which is very common) but Ashlee and her son’s father listened to his wishes when he was ten years old and changed the arrangement to week on/ week off as that’s what he wanted 👦 The Family Courts will normally ascertain children’s wishes and feelings but recent research by the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory has shown that children’s voices are not being sufficiently heard, as the court process focusses on the parent vs parent battle 😔 Ashlee’s experience is a perfect example of how you really don’t need any drama 🎭: provided it’s safe to do so, and your children are old enough and don’t feel trapped in the middle of an adult dispute, sometimes the easiest answer is to let them express their own view.
