Reasonable thought and the art of caring must be taken by both horns and controlled, mediated and harmonised so oneself doesn’t become so self absorbed. I often find myself not caring, people often ask questions about religion - is God real? The answer is, I don’t care. This isn’t out of sheer ignorance nor is it because I am some deranged anti - theist, I simply don’t care. For some reason my life has become such a vortex, having too care so much has almost ruined the way I think, therefore I just don’t care anymore. But there must be a fine balance between the art of caring and the art of thought, I still care about thought and developing philosophy because this is important. Preserving history and keeping your ancestors traditions is also important, I care things that benefit me, not others. While I may be contradicting myself, which is true to a degree, I still find that the art of caring is actually quite a subjective matter. Others care for more, I am using religion in this example. A religious person goes to church every sunday without fail, because they care so much about God that it actually consumes their life. This isn’t a bad thing as religion benefits society to a degree, however if we look at a religious person that doesn’t care we see that they actually don’t attend church every sunday. Thus the conclusion is reached and a hierarchy of care should be established, you can still label yourself with certain names but your care must translated onto a direct hierarchy. The example proves my point, while it may be rather deductive or short in nature - it still provides the foundation for thought and its development. This idea of not caring can be directly ascribed to evil, as a whole, evil is simply a deficit of good that shouldn’t be entertained. Evil can be seen as beautiful or an attack on beauty, I often use this example a lot but modern warfare is so relevant that it must be used. Modern warfare destroys beauty, it fragments society into so many pieces that simply can not be brought back together. Drones replace artillery and large clumps of metal sail the seas rather than immense warships that you ought not to miss. The idea of evil being beautiful can be seen in cavalry, muskets, a real reason for warfare rather than simply being enemies. Large houses that encapsulate what it truly means to be an aristocrat dominate the landscape, overshadowing a small country town that call the aristocrats evil. But why should anyone care, we should not endorse total apathy but instead break away from such coldness. We should let go of what we can’t control - ignore societal pressures, and selectively investing your interests into what actually entertains you and matters for your phaedo. Material successes only advocates for physical pain, true happiness and virtue is achieved through deep and meaningful friendships.
