@joanna.dementia.e: Today, I want to address a question that many caregivers of people with dementia often face: What do you do when your loved one with dementia says, "I wanna go home"? First off, it's important to understand that when someone with dementia says they want to go home, it's not necessarily a literal desire to return to a specific place. Instead, it often reflects a feeling of discomfort, confusion, or insecurity. So, how do we respond with compassion and understanding? I have a couple tips for you. #CaregivingTips #longtermcare #ltc #alzheimers #creativedementiacare #dementiatraining #caregiversoftiktok #healthcaretok #dementia #familycaregiver #lewybodydementia #frontotemporaldementia #cna #nursesoftiktok #alzheimersawareness

you go out for a walk and say we are going home. Make a circle return and ask if the walk was productive. works like a charm

they don't recognise their surroundings at that moment so shift to their favourite song, play it and watch the feeling comfort them 🥰

This is such an eye opener. I have recently had a traumatic event and all I could verbalize after, while sobbing, was ”I want to go home.” Now I understand why that was all my mind could process.

My father with dementia keeps asking for his accordion and the home says they have no room for it in his room. How would handle this? He keeps asking.

I need a technique for my mom. Asking her about her home and furnishings won't work for us. This occurs during phone calls and visits. Any advice would be appreciated.

Tbh saying to my mom that she is home by pointing out the closet door pattern that she has chosen and asking her to tell me the story of how she picked it, settles her and she laughs it off.

I would take my dad out in the car. Ask him for directions and manage to get him to direct me back to the house. We had fun and de-escalated the situation

My aunt would want to go home every night so my uncle would drive her around the town and back to their house. He did it every night bless him. She’d be happy then & settle.
