My child was born at 33 weeks and our neonatologist told us to start solids at 4 months. There’s actually a great article about starting solids for premature babies as it’s different for term babies.

I also think why make extra work for yourself? Enjoy that 4 month age and embrace not having to prepare solids for a little longer!

1. I’ve been told to start my bub on purées at 4 months to get him ready for proper solids at 6 months. With supporting research from his GP.

At 4m we gave a spoonful here and there, by 5m he met all the signs and ate a lot. I don’t feel we did anything wrong 🤗

We started just after 4 months, our maternal health nurse said she was ready 🤷🏼♀️I think it’s not one size fits all, it’s more do what you feel is right.

I didn’t do ‘solids’ as such but I did do tastes though, I would dip a finger in something and let her taste it off my finger, her first taste was Dahl it’s was literally just an experience of flavour

My 4.5 month old was sitting with only small assistance/total head neck control, reaching for our food, coordinated cross hand movements, and swallowed food/non-thrusting when offered 🤷

My 4 month old sits up on his own on floor and in high chair , tries to take our food of our plate, grabs and puts a spoon in his mouth, supports his neck and back. What would you suggest ?

I started at 4 months. My daughter had reflux and it was recommended by her doctor. She showed all the signs and was an excellent eater.

I started at 4 months my baby was mostly ready at it was a HUGE help with her reflux which was HORRIFIC, was a great decision for me. Did not replace bottles at all tho.

My son has a developmental delay, and was not showing signs of readiness until 11m. The shame and societal pressure I felt because of these “recommendations” was immense. Every baby is different

I understand this, however sometimes professionals recommend starting before 6 months. For example our son had CMPA and reflux and wasn’t gaining enough weight on just allergy formula, no medicines…

2 of my friends were told to start solids at 4 months. one was because baby was growing so quick that formula just wasn't cutting it (is what her ped told her) my little one is almost 5.5 months old
