I’ve been to a debutante ball and a bar mitzvah. I’ve never seen someone pull up to them in a Lamborghini flashing stacks of money. And these people were actually rich.

What about the grades? Graduation? College? Maybe that should be the focus.

The folks saying debutantes and cotillions, most ppl don’t have access to those events and such. I’ve never known anybody in 30 years to participate in one of those. But, everybodygoes to high school

I understand but I saw a study that sad the poorest people spend the most on prom. I would like to see that money be spent on land/ education/ business for the child. So I’m conflicted on this.

I understand the point about a coming of age ceremony but if you will throw a party in addition to prom and have food/music/guests, why not have a big 16th or 18th birthday, which would be a more —

I think cause we are now in the social media era and it’s a competition that u gotta out do the next person fr and also if u from the hood, some kids don’t make it to prom so to make it to that point

Graduated in 1983 in Southern California. No one I knew had any kind of coming of age party. It also wasn’t a thing to go to prom without a date. Proms were understated compared to now.

Yeah these over the top antics prom spectacles were not remotely done in the world I grew up in. We did normal proms…dresses & tuxs with photos at home and maybe limos for some.

I don’t think this is the mindset or thought people have… and we actually do.. several cotillion and beatilluons … what we see is competition… I was brought out so was my dad and grandfather…
