At the beginning of June, I naively loaded the deadlift bar to 380 pounds thinking to myself “I’m a rower, how hard could it really be?”. No straps, no belt, and no experience with any weight above 250. I then pathetically attempted to lift the weight. Needless to say, the bar did not move and I found myself trying again and again to get the bar to lift with no luck. Realizing that this was incredibly unrealistic and insane, I started at an easier weight. First I went from 310 to 325 only to learn that I wasn’t wearing the proper shoes and did not have a belt to protect my back or straps to support my grip on the bar. After using proper form and equipment, I was able to PR and lift 345 to 355. At this point 380 did not seem as unreasonable as before and I decided to dedicate time every week to improve my deadlift. Around mid to late July I lifted 370, 375, and then 380 all in the same session. It was an unbelievable day, especially looking back on my first attempt just a little over a month prior. I was now confident that the next session I could make it to 400. Three days after my 380 PR I rashly decided to make the attempt. In this attempt, I successfully lifted the bar off the ground but my form faltered and I began to feel the fatigue in my core, back, and hips. I was unable to lock out the rep. Again, incredibly stupid and insane to expect such a big jump in that small of a recovery window but after taking an appropriate amount of rest time, I was ready to complete the lift. Today I did it, the goal that I committed to in June. Not once but twice. This may be completely irrelevant to you and comparatively to other pro-lifters not that impressive, I understand that. But as a rower who is not familiar with the lifting community and has never really put much thought into the lifts that they do, it brings me so much joy to accomplish something I once thought was out of reach. So yeah 400 club wow LFG 😤😤😤 #rowing #rowingtiktok #deadlift #400club #400lbclub #400lb #weightlifting #weightliftinggirl #rower #collegerowing
