Long term wise they can scuff the glass, I’d recommend wiping glass dry first, then apply and wash, then dry it taking any lil marks

Wiping with a Brillo pad will put microscopic scratches in the glass allowing acid from the soot to etch unsightly marks and weaken it in the long run.
