The bottom turn is such a cool trick, it was one of the first tricks I learned that made me realize that you could create your own speed! 🚀 I tried the bottom turn hundreds of times before I realized. Let me explain: Obviously you are going to use the wave for a bottom turn but I want you to think about it a little bit different. Think about using the wave to start your momentum forward but as you go into the bottom turn, you are going to think about driving hard off your heels to create your own speed. Don't worry about losing the wave when you are trying this. The main reason I wasn't able to do a big bottom turn for so long is because I was so worried about getting back in the wave after the bottom turn, that I wasn't creating my own speed and was only doing a little carve into the flat of the wave. It sounds counter intuitive but the more you drive off your heels and create your own speed the easier its going to be to stay in the wave. To learn the first part of the bottom turn (Driving out) just practice getting only your heelside rail in the water and carry that speed almost 45 degrees away from the direction of the boat. A good way to think of this is if you were on land and trying to jump backwards as far as you could off your heels. And then try to do this on your board. At the apex of your turn start to transition to your toeside rail. Now you are going to do the exact same thing you did on the start of your bottom turn but opposite. Get your toeside rail into the water and explode off your toes at a 45 degree angle to get back into the wave. You can think of this the same way as on land as well, but if you were trying to jump as far as you could forward off your toes. 🤙🏼 #wakesurfing #wakesurf #soulcraftboarding
