How did we afford upper class?! ⬇️✈️ I’m afraid to say I haven’t become the bougie travel mum and haven’t won the lottery. We initially spent £1600 on return economy tickets for our family of 4 (LHR - Maldives).. My husband and eldest son ended up changing their flights to come a few days later - leaving me and our baby Luca travelling together I was asking about upgrading from economy light to economy comfort (in order to take a bigger suitcase) when I got a bit giddy and enquired about upgrading to upper class… 95,000 points each way, plus £320 in taxes. I’d collected a huge amount of Virgin points and decided it was now or never as it seemed like a (relative) bargain. Virgin have recently changed how they do reward seats, it was lucky at the time that upper class reward seats were available for my flights as they used to be limited to a couple per flight. Things have now changed and you can book any seat on any flight using points, but the number of points you need is now huge. So if we ignore the points, the upgrade cost me another £320 (plus I think there was a small supplement for Luca of around £40). It would have been silly not to! Is the first class life for me? Absolutely not. I thought it was all massively over rated. It was nice of course, and I won’t be giving up my return seat home 🙃 but I would NEVER pay £3000+ for a one way upper class flight which this route often costs. I’m glad I can comfortably sit in economy now knowing that the cheap life will always be for me 🫶🏻. #upperclass #firstclassflight #travelwithbaby #thetravelmum #familytravel #businessclasstravel
