Man, I just moved to Kyoto for a year and it’s eye opening how lacking the US is with its city planning. I can get literally everything I need within, at most, 2 km of my house

Old world development happened during humanity's walking/horseback phase, small and self contained. America developed largely post automobile, hence the sprawl.

San Francisco has both the downtown and duplication. I can walk and have all my needs met in my neighborhood. I don’t need to go downtown.
