His breathing was labored, and X-rays showed significant scarring on his lungs. Veterinarians also suspected he was aspirating through his cleft palate. Still, he was too young for surgery. The hole in his mouth would only open as he grew.⁠ ⁠ Desperate to save him, we transported Brussel Sprout to Texas A&M for specialized care. The veterinarians decided emergency surgery to place a device in his mouth, closing the cleft temporarily, was the only course of action. The procedure is risky, but we have no other choice.⁠ ⁠ After Brussel Sprout has his surgery, he will remain in critical care under close observation. He is the most precious little boy filled with so much life, but the financial burden of his care has become overwhelming.
