In Iraq, which is Persian influenced, shisha is the word for jar. I always thought it was an Arabic word.

Another theory for αργιλές in Greek is the accusative (τον ναργιλέ => τον αργιλε). Cf. a napron => an apron in English

Şişe from Persian via Thrkish did enter other languages, including my home language, to mean “bottle”. I thought I’d heard English speakers using it too for the pipe. The clay theory is fascinating.
