The first week of my hospital internship was very educational. I learned so many new things and took my skills to the next level. Due to protection of data and patient privacy I wasn’t able to film everything, so these short sequences are just a few impressions of the week. 1. Case studies: The head of department, my mentor doctor, gave me his account so that I have access to the diagnostic findings of the patient in our department. He encouraged me to study the cases of our patients and their medical history, so that I have a good overview. 2. Pleura effusion and pleuracentesis: One of our patient came to us after having a TAVI (trandcatheter aortic valve implantation) for mobilisation. However, after complaining about breathing problems we send him for a chest x-ray and found out, that he had massive amounts of water in his pleural gap (pleura effusion). Of course we removed this water with a pleuracentesis, collecting 1,5 liters of water from each side! 3. Bedside test and blood transfusion: Several patients came to as with severe anemia, so they got a blood transfusion. This is a very risky and therefore highly standardised procedure. There are several compatibility testing beforehand, but right before the transfusion, we do one last compatibility test next to the patient (bedside test). 4. Monitoring and electric cardioversion: We had so many patients in our department with atrial fibrillation and tachycardia. These patients are under constant monitoring. Some of them didn’t respond to medication, so we did an electric cardioversion (we basically gave them electroshocks). 5. Placement of a central venous catheter: Almost every patient gets a venous catheter for infusions and medication. However, some patients have such bad veins, that it’s not able to insert one in their arms or even their legs. So our last option is a central venous catheter that is inserted in the neck vein. Follow me for more internship insight and medical content. #MedStudentLife #Hospitallnternship #MedicalJourney #DoctorInTraining #HealthcareExperience #MedicalEducation #MedicalStudentTips #ClinicalExperience #HealthcareProfessionals #MedicineWorld #MedicalSchoolLife #InternLife #MedicalCases #Healthcarelnsights #DoctorTips #HospitalLife #MedicineStudent #HealthcareLearning #PatientCare #MedicineStudies #MedSchoolJourney #MedicalObservations #DoctorInTraining #MedicalCommunity #MedicalLife #HealthcareJourney #ClinicalRotations #medicalfield #casestudy #pleuraleffusion #bedside #bloodtransfusions #atrialfibrillation #tachycardia #cardioversion #vein #veins
