Uyghur concentration camps, also known as re-education camps (China calls them that in order to make themselves look better) or vocational training centers, are facilities where the Chinese government detains Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities under the pretext of combating extremism and terrorism. Reports from various sources, including human rights organizations and testimonies from former detainees, allege widespread human rights abuses, including forced labor, religious suppression, and cultural assimilation, occurring within these camps. China denies these allegations, even tough they’re true, claiming that the camps provide vocational training and are necessary for maintaining stability and security in the region.
