Reunification would mean rejoining the EU so number plates would be same as republic. Same way as the pound would become euro

You're doing great work here. I'm from the North, living in Dublin. And my main take away speaking to people in ROI is, they seem to think a United Ireland is as simple as handing over the keys.

Have you seen the price of car tax Down South??? Garda patrolling the Shankill would be interesting! 🤔 I’ve heard scary stories about the price for calling an ambulance in the Republic.

Maybe the police forces would stay regional (kind of like England’s versions Mets) and amalgamate slowly over time. I want to know which Tayto packaging would be used going forward

It will be the formation of a brand new state, we won't simply be joining the ROI. Any and all of these things will take years. I imagine a brand new police force would be established.

Both police forces have worked hand in hand for a long time. They’ll figure it out. Plates, probably only be replaced as people buy new cars.

Drew Harris gives me the ick 🤢 they’d have to do something about the Garda uniforms. The reg plates should stay yellow up the north but with the numbers like down south like 201 DY for Derry.

Given North has already a different format plate to rest of UK - I can imagine it continuing on for transistion period - just with EU flag back on - technically the pre-87 plates are still legal

other thing to consider is yearly car tax. I pay €200/year for a 2.0 litre 180bhp diesel (2018) - google says car would be £220/yr in North (€257/yr)
