French baking doesn’t have to be intimidating or time consuming! For this recipe you can use premade puff pastry, which makes it easy and simple☺️ You usually see tarte tatins as one large size, but I like making individual tarte tatins using a shallow non adhesive popover pan, but you can definitely use a cake pan if you want! Process would be the same, you would just have to bake a little bit longer till it’s nice and golden brown! Here’s the recipe! (Makes 4 individual tarts, 10 cm in diameter) -2 Granny Smith apples -100 grams sugar(1/2 cup) -A little squeeze of lemon juice -4 tablespoons of water -30 grams of butter (2tbsp) -Pinch of salt -Optional - vanilla beans -Premade puff pastry, cut in the diameter slightly larger of your pan mold, pricked with a fork - leave in fridge till ready to use Peel and core apples, then cut in half. Preheat the oven to 200ºC (180ºC Fan) 400ºF. Add sugar, water, and lemon juice in saucepan. Cook over medium heat till sugar dissolves and turns an amber caramel color, but don’t overcook as it cooks more in the oven! Turn off heat and add butter & salt. Add the apples and coat in caramel. Then place apples in the pan, half an apple per mold, cut side down. Then drizzle the remaining caramel over the apples. Add the precut pastry on top, slightly tucking the pastry around the apples. Then bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
