@blossomandbranchfarm: Looking to create some garden privacy? One of our most important keystone species in North America is the willow, which serves as a food source for so many pollinators and Lepidoptera (caterpillars)! Willow roots very easily; in fact, any part of a willow can form roots and grow in moist soil! It doesn’t mind our heavy clay; in fact it prefers a soil that holds moisture. Planting the willows this close together will help keep them from getting too large, as will keeping them pruned down each year. This spot where we planted it is far away enough from any foundations or water pipes to not create issues there, so if you want to do this project just know that willows love clay pipe and can work its way into them! Not only will this hedge hopefully fill in and be a beautiful pollinator-serving green screen, we can also continue to take cuttings from it to make baskets, fencing, and other garden structures as it matures. So, would you plant one? #willowhedge #permaculture #garden #gardening #backyard #landscape

What did you use to hold them together? The black thing… it didn’t look like a zip tie!
