Kindling: Thin pieces of dry wood that will help build your fire. Softwoods like cedar are a great choice for kindling. Fuel Wood: Larger and more dense pieces of wood that will keep your fire going. Hardwoods like oak, maple, and elm will keep your fire burning for a longer time. Fire Pit: Clear a small area so that it is just dirt.
