@develobaby: This lovely little girl has motor restlessness during her sleep. Many babies do, and it’s no cause for concern or a sign that something is “wrong”. Motor restlessness occurs because babies have immature sensory integration and therefore have difficulty sensing the boundaries of their body. That is, the sense of where the body ends and space begins. The baby tries to address this by moving their arms and legs (and sometimes their whole body). Through movement, they can better sense where their body is, which regulates and soothes. The problem is that this sensory seeking often wakes the baby up, resulting in more difficulty and less sleep. Therefore, you can choose to stimulate your baby’s senses during the day so that your baby is pleasantly sensory saturated and will have less need to satiate their senses around bedtime.
