Ex funeral director here - a funeral director have to take instructions from the client (this is the person who pays for the funeral). This happens all the time unfortunately. So sorry for you. :(

my family tried to stop me seeing my nan, funeral directors were amazing and their karma was I was the last one to kiss her goodnight and say goodbye, they then done the funeral behind my back 🥺

I've had this conversation with a funeral director as my grandmother scattered my fathers ashes without mine and my brothers knowledge. I lost a piece of me that day that I'll never get back.

Even if the funeral director had arranged it, they can't tell you how many siblings or family members loved ones have left. They only have face value, and if the client has paid for the services...
