agreed on the 2x4 it is better for their feet and they feel more stable an old ladder is another great roasting perch

2x4 is better for their feet and chickens tend to get less bubble foot or don't fall off while sleeping !

A relatively large study on roosting surfaces was done in England and their findings agree with you. Only thing better would be a very large branch that is slightly rounded.

The 2 x 4’s also helps them with bumble feet if they do have some thing in their foot it’s expanded enough for them to reach & peck and get it out.

2x4 is far superior, thank you for choosing them over round poles. It’s so much better for them.

feet should NEVER wrap around roosts! always use a 2x4 like yours. always. it save their feet and allows them to be fully stable why moving on the roost.

I REALLY hope you see this and respond. What are those brackets you got your 2x4s mounted into? 🥰 This is amazing. My girls would love it.

Yes! The poles are actually not good for them or the muscles in their feet. You’re right! 💓

2x4 also allow the chickens to protect their feet from rodents that like to nibble toes!
