@exploitedrec: “‘Joy’ 🍓 was initially inspired by going to see the band Maze with my folks here in Manchester as a young teenager - a life changer. ‘Joy and Pain’ of theirs was a staple anthem on a lot of club nights here and something I’d play often in my ‘Dubble D’ sets. However I always wanted a way to mix it in to peak time House sets, hence marrying it with a piano line which is very much in debt and homage to The Reese Project on top of a very much homegrown rhythm track. Being first and foremost a drummer and percussionist I tend to record most of that side of things live for all my productions, then re-sequence and augment with other sounds. This video is a little insight into how I put together the layers for the original record, played on pretty much the same instruments (as far as I remember!).
