It’s is both a Patato scallop & a Patato cake. The only call them Patato cakes in VIC & Tasmania. In NSW, QLD & ACT it is called a Patato scallop.

Because scallop refers to how the potato is cut. Just like the shape of the shell. There's a logical link. Cake has zero logical link to this item.

has no one heard of scalloped potatoes the definition is to cut thin so potatoes are cut thin battered then fried potato scallop just makes sense cake is when you mush stuff together to make a "cake"

It's actually easy. They are two different products. A potato scallop is a single piece of potato cut and deep fried. It's the name of the potato cut shape....

Canadian here never heard potato scallop. We call that a hash brown. Otherwise it’s called hash browns (s) if it’s cubed or grated.
