![Apocalisse e inferno sono le parole più usate in questi giorni. Non per qualche progetto cinematografico, ma per quello che sta avvenendo a Los Angeles. Sono ore frenetiche nel tentativo disperato di spegnere i roghi e mettere in salvo più persone ed edifici possibili. Ma i tentativi, purtroppo, non tutti portano i loro frutti. Perché gli incendi che si sono moltiplicati negli ultimi 3 giorni sono stati tra i più distruttivi della storia di Los Angeles, raccontano i media. Tanto da aver causato tristemente 10 vittime, oltre ad aver portato 180.000 persone via dalle loro case. Sono più di 34.000 gli acri (oltre 137 chilometri quadrati) distrutti solo dai due incendi di Palisades e di Eaton, vicino a Pasadena. Quartieri inceneriti, case inesistenti, oltre 10.000 strutture sparite. Lì dove prima prosperavano abitazioni maestose e benessere ora c’è il silenzio. È una città fantasma, raccontano i testimoni, per quelli che sembrano i resti dopo un bombardamento o un uragano. E proprio a Pacific Palisades, forse il quartiere più colpito, le immagini dei droni certificano questo. Ovvero quanta devastazione ci sia stata in poche ore, che ha cancellato anni e anni di storie di persone, che in quelle strade avevano deciso di investire soldi, ma anche sentimenti e speranze, perché si sentivano al sicuro. Ma la natura e i roghi hanno deciso che non era così. Mentre si cerca di capire quali siano le cause che hanno provocato così tanta distruzione, se ci sia qualche dolo da parte di qualcuno, Los Angeles sospira e respira affannosamente ogni sera al tramonto. Tra la paura che un nuovo incendio porti via un pezzo della sua città e l’odore di fumo che ormai aleggia nell’aria. Ma che anche offusca quel panorama iconico e inconfondibile, che fino a pochi giorni fa era rifugio per molti e che oggi è solo il riassunto della paura.
