@jillpestana: I’ve come a LONG way on my speaking journey. 🚀 As a shy kid I panicked 😱 when I had to speak up in class, let alone when I gave presentations. My tactic was to go 2nd to just get it over with & I’d console myself by thinking “going at the beginning will ensure everyone will just forget your talk”. 😅 Then, I gave a speech for my high school graduation and I realized that I had a voice 🥹 It was so empowering. From there I took EVERY opportunity to publicly speak: classes, conferences, poster presentations, student orgs- all of it. Learning breathing techniques to calm my shakey legs was a game changer! 💖 And then I took public speaking classes in grad school that really took my speaking to the next level. I had so many lightbulb moments in that class. Still today, I speak everywhere I can (at least that my time allows) & regularly make videos to flex that speaking muscle and keep in shape 💪 Grateful to recieve opportunities to speak on topics I’m passionate about: batteries, leadership, DEI, & more! ⚡️ #batteries #battery #batteryindustry #batteryscientist
