4-1 mix is OK but not actually a permeable base, going upto 6/7 - 1 is, as per BS7533

I line them as well so the soil can't get out in joins or any gaps in the sleeper. staple them to the inside of sleeper

Always use dpm on the insides. I lay mine on gravel for max drainage and attach to painted steel posts. That way when they rot you can re attach new ones to the same posts

Hard to stop s/wood rot.Prefer pea shingle base and charcoal underside and inside sleeper or hardwood base with softwood on top👍
