In Portugal, it's also rude to bring the check without the guests asking for it. We don't leave as soon as we finish the food, unless we're in a rush

people in the comments thinking she's rushing the people out. I've been to restaurants where I've paid, they took the plates, and we still sat and talked. not every restaurant has a limited eat time

In Europe going out to eat is more about the time spend together, the experience. So yes we stay for hours in a restaurant even if we’re done eating.
