@bratbustersparenting: As a parent, times are your best friend. For example, if your kid has a consequence like sweeping the kitchen floor within 15 minutes of being asked to do so, you set a timer. You always start the timer, and then you say nothing. You’re not micromanaging the time. You're just a timekeeper. As soon as that 15 minutes is up and they haven't done it, then you would go to the backup consequence. When you say something as a parent, like a time frame, it’s crucial you follow through. When you say 15 minutes, it has to be 15 minutes, it can't be 15 and a half, it can't be 16. So that's why timers are so important, it keeps them accountable. What’s a good substitute for media blackout? We don’t do tv daily and would love something like this for my older two (9 & 7)

Won’t turning normal house maintenance into a punishment make them hate it? Obviously chores are boring but I want it to be a natural part of their day as it will be as they grow up.

What if they don’t watch tv that much and like to help out with chores but misbehave with other things. I don’t want to ruin something they like to do as a consequence of them misbehaving.Any advices?
