@worldpins: Going 300 feet underwater in a submarine from the Viking Polaris expedition ship was an incredibly cool experience during my recent 13-day Antarctic Explorer sailing with Viking from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. The Polaris is an amazing modern ship equipped with its own onboard submarines that can take you deep below the surface. Climbing into the submarine and then descending beneath the Antarctic waters gave us views you can't get any other way. It was wild seeing the massive icebergs from underneath, with their detailed formations continuing far below the water line. We spotted some incredibly rare jellyfish species and other marine life I'd never seen before. The submarine can take you to places in the Antarctic waters that basically no one else has ever explored before. Having a dedicated submarine onboard that could bring us up-close to the underwater Antarctic was such a unique amenity. It really elevated the whole 13-day Buenos Aires to Ushuaia expedition to the next level. Being able to witness that little-seen world from inside the submarine's viewing area with the huge 180-degree windows and swiveling seats was easily one of the coolest experiences of the whole Antarctic Explorer voyage with Viking.
