#IRC urges full support for #Ethiopia's humanitarian appeal at #Geneva donor event The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is urging global donors to fully support Ethiopia's humanitarian appeal at a high-level pledging event taking place in Geneva today. The high-level event convening today brings together senior officials from various countries and international organizations. Its primary objective is to raise $1 billion to support the United Nations' prioritized humanitarian response plan for the East African nation. Preceding this event, a coalition of 17 partner countries, including the United Kingdom, European Union, and United States, released a joint position paper emphasizing the Ethiopian government's responsibility to prioritize public funding for the most pressing emergency needs within the country. The #UN's Humanitarian Response Plan for Ethiopia requires $3.2 billion to address critical priorities, including providing aid to 4 million internally displaced persons. However, the plan currently faces a significant funding gap, with less than 4% of the required funds secured, reflecting a similar pattern from the previous year when only 36% of the appeal was funded.
