I used to work at a sandwich shop, and they toss all the really great loaves of bread at the end of the night. I used to go back after closing and steal them out the dumpster.

If you just ask them at the end of the day, they’ll generally give them away you don’t have to jump in a dumpster.

I used to be a mgr at Panera and they are supposed to have someone from shelter or food bank come by every night to pick up. Sometimes they just quit showing up

When breads r baked in store, there r no preservatives so they pitch them in days. I’ve eaten 3 week old bread past expiration and it was still wonderful.

This is sad. When St. Louis Bread Co started (before it became panera) they donated the leftover bread and bagels to local charities. Sad.

At a new Panera I used to work at we made so many dishes, drinks, everything off the menu essentially to “practice” for the opening. They didn’t even let us take it home after we wasted $$$ & product

As an ex employee I can confirm that we do indeed donate the bread at least the one I worked at did but after we hold it for about 2 days the health inspectors will deduct for it so it’s becomes trash
