I wrote this reverse poem because it represents the complete mental & emotional shift I had to make to put back on my running shoes & swimsuit. My fatness is not a badge of honor, but my passion is. 💜 If I could wear my courage, and drive, and strength like I do my weight, you may not question my ability to complete a triathlon or toe the line of dozens of long-distance races. In the throws of deep depression in 2022, I had a choice to make. I could continue the false narrative depression told me that I did not deserve to do the things I love, that I could not chase goals & dreams until I was a different size. OR - I could get up, meet myself where I was, and find my way back to running, biking, swimming, hiking, dancing, and all the other types of movement that made me feel good. I went from 10 minutes of intentional movement every day back to training. And it looks different than 10 years ago, but doesn’t it always? Letting go of the preconceived notion of who I thought I needed to be to show up has given me so much more than I could have ever imagined. My body will continue to change over the years, but I’ll always be strong. 💪🏻 . . . . #youcandohardthings #fatathlete #plussizerunner #womenempowerment #strongwomen #inclusivefitness #triathlontraining
