I did a comms degree (graduated 2016) and paid off my HECS last year after working in the field full time for 7 years 🤷♀️

The biggest stitch up - I feel like we were lied to and manipulated. The biggest mistake I’ve ever made was uni and I’ve gotten nothing out of it and I’m paying so much off and it stillgoing up

Ironically. You can’t claim indexation on HECCS retrospectively but you can claim interest on a property investment as long as you “intend” on renting the property…..1/

I'm in teaching. they keep crying how there aren't enough of us right now. 7yrs of steady repayments and I still owe 20k. had to leave my city and perm position because I couldn't afford rent anymore.

my son & most of his friends have taken a gap year. They have all pretty much decided not to go to uni right now because of Hecs. Working instead to try and save money while they are still at home.

When people ask is there anything you would change / do different? First answer always is not go to uni. I’d talk anyone who asked out of it! Literal stitch up

looks like I have to decide whether to pay off a chunk of my HECS with all my house savings and start from scratch or fight every bank to try and secure a loan with my HECs climbing yearly 🥲

I’m currently sitting on 80K in hecs debt, I put extra money aside each week on top of what comes out of my pay and it’s still not enough compared to indexation that I’m still in the negative

NZ is interest free also but you pay back 12% every pay check regardless what you earn. Aussies have it good
