What you should also know…💩 We’re using the Deep Litter Method for our breeder tent. Once the grow outs eat everything in their space, we’ll like turn theirs into a DLM as well, cleaning out every few months and using the hay mixed with poop as a slow release fertilizing mulch in the garden!🥗 Their food bowls will be upgraded to PVC pipes to hold more food for continuous feeding.⛰️ The hill in the center of the Breeders is to encourage digging inside⛓️‍💥 There’s 1/4” hardware cloth lining only the perimeter, 1’ inside and 1’ outside to prevent digging out and predators coming in. We’ve also added this hardware cloth to the bottom of their side walls.😍 Rabbits are naturally social and thrive in a colony! The reason why people use cages is to control breeding and dis ease. We chose this method because the animals are clearly happier and with good husbandry and knowledge of medicinals, like willow bark as a natural coccidiostat, all of these issues can be prevented! The ladies control the breeding cycles.🐰 We’ve had 3 litters in 3 months so far and currently have about 30 rabbits! They’re mostly to feed our dogs and cats, but we look forward to some extra food security as well.💰 For the two chicken runs and our initial breeding stock, we spent about $600 and will now have meat indefinitely. If I would have known meat rabbits were such an easy, sustainable animal, I would have started off with them before chickens 11 years ago! What questions do you have about raising meat rabbits? #homesteading #meatrabbits
