@screenwritinginla: What are your thoughts? I’ve heard Tarantino delve into violence in Cinema before, but this is the best interview I’ve seen where he fully explains his philosophy of it. I agree with him. I’m not into it as much as he is, but I do believe in the cathartic experience of Cinema. In general. But what he says at the end is what I really resonate with. The idea that there are no boundaries. And that’s not even something that simply pertains to Cinema. That’s art. All art. That’s a substantial reason why art exists. The boundary-pushing, exploration aspect of it. It allows us to discover new things about ourselves, and humanity in totality, that can, hopefully, help us in the long term. I think OUATIH is such a great example of it. Seeing the hippies get demolished at the end was such a cathartic experience, knowing what they did in real life. It felt like retribution in a way. It is retribution - if you think about. That version of those deplorable human beings will live on forever now - for the rest of our society to see. That’s why OUATIH was a kind of fairytale. If only that’s what would’ve really happened in real life… ⁉️But what do you think of violence in Cinema? Human nature is violent. Sanitizing media by pretending otherwise is delusional and doesn’t prevent real world violence anyway. Tarantino is right

His violent movies keep us connected to paganism, the Dionysian, the dark abyss of the earth, as Camille Paglia may note. They keep us connected to the earth.

Gore and violence is the type of thing that gets you hungry until there's nothing else left on the menu. We can't keep pushing the same limits and keep winning. Broken grounds require new grounds.

I think Tarantino is deeply vapid, he thinks violence is profound but has literally nothing to say about it. I remember JG Ballard absolutely destroying Kill Bill and he was spot on.
