@geography_joe: Replying to @rryanwalters #greenscreen Examining #Utah’s population map! Utah is the 30th most populous (and fastest growing) state with 3,271,648 residents. Much like we saw in #Colorado, Utah has a very centralized population, with 82% of the state living on the #WasatchFront, more commonly known as the #SLC #metro, as its anchored by the state’s capital and largest #city, #SaltLakeCity. In the valley between #GreatSaltLake and the #WasatchMountains is Utah’s 5 biggest cities, #SaltLake City, #WestValleyCity, #WestJordan, #Provo, and #Orem, as well as other significant cities like #Payson, #Ogden, #Layton, #Bountiful, and #BrighamCity, with the northern end of this urban area being #Logan, and the southern end being #Santaquin. #StGeorge, Utah’s 6th biggest city, is located in Southwest Utah, nearby #CedarCity, but you won’t see very much population between St. George and the Wasatch Front, since the land is mostly #desert, but also a lot of it is owned and managed by the #BLM, an arm of the federal government. Utah is notable in that its the only state where the majority of residents adhere to one church, specifically, the #Mormon church, aka the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, with about 60% of the population adhering to the religion, since Utah’s very founding can be traced back to the exodus of Mormons from the #Midwest, particularly #Missouri and #Nauvoo, in #Illinois. The state is more secular today, with a very diversified economy, but the Mormon presence has a unique and notable impact on the state, especially in the form of drive-through soda chain restaurants like #Swig and #Fizz. Utah is also home to 5 #nationalparks, #Arches, #CapitolReef, #Canyonlands, #BryceCanyon, and #Zion, due to the state’s unique geography and scenery.
