I saw a farmer put a cow and her calf in with 2 herding dogs and threatened the calf and made the momma instinct kick in and she protected the calf

Why tho? I always heard that animals ignore babies if they’re sick & they know they can’t survive. But what is the reason they would kill their own calf? Could it be like postpartum depression?

Astonishing! I wonder why? We also had a cow who had her first calf and she got crazy! We had to separate the cow and the calf.
