@gingerfootgarden: This 17” tall 10-in-1 @Vego Garden raised bed will be the home for my pole beans and other vining plants like bittermelon this year. I briefly showed the way I’m trellising them but I’ll show more details in the next video. For now, here’s how I filled up my 10-in-1 Vego Garden raised bed sustainably and affordably! ♻️ 1. Start with a base of cardboard boxes to suppress weeds. 2. Layer with dry leaves, veggie scraps, fruit peels, spent coffee grounds and tea, powdered eggshells, and used paper towels and/or similar organic matter. At this point, I also mix in shredded cardboard boxes and papers because I don’t mind using them. If I wasn’t able to add enough nitrogen-rich materials, I add some soaked alfalfa pellets to boost nitrogen and speed up breakdown. 3. Add some spent soil from last year to kickstart decomposition. 4. Layer with raised bed soil and leaf compost, then mix well. 5. Amend soil with Azomite for minerals, slow-release fertilizer for fertility, perlite for drainage, and vermiculite for nutrient retention. 6. Water the soil thoroughly. 7. If not ready to plant yet, cover the bed with cardboard boxes and/or anything similar (like those storage box lids) for weight.
