a lot of people are not understanding a basic rule of court, that asking for a new judge is requesting a recusal and the judge is the one that makes a determination if they should recuse themselves. That may seem counterintuitive, since you probably think no judge ever would, but remember that 1) there’s always the right to appeal the judges refusal to recuse themselves, and 2) if all you had to do is file a motion and request a new judge and vaguely assert he’s biased or unfair towards a defendant to get it granted, then EVERYONE would do it in every case. What about the next judge? They say something he doesn’t like or thinks is biased. Another motion to transfer. And so on and so on. Some judges do in fact need to recuse themselves and fail to do so, but that’s an infinitely minute percentage of cases.

Actually, the judge is calling out the defendants bad behavior. And it sounds like he wants a new judge because he did piss this one off, but not answering questions in court when he was asking for

Seems to me the judge is owning someone who tries to play games and lost and basking in the glory when the criminal and attorney realized they effed up

This is the worst take. Judge had a motion against him, so he’s asking the defendant how he addressed the judge last hearing. I’ll assume he called the judge dude first.
