This film means so much to me. I remember specifically hunting for Walt Whitman’s poetry books just because Professor Keating mentioned him a little too much. What I love the most is how this film criticizes the education system. It showed how even these privileged white boys are affected by their institution’s oppressive practices. Professor Keating is admirable, his teaching methods are reformative and it can be seen by how these teenagers learned to “seize the day.” He promotes free-thinking; I think that this is one of the most fundamental notion of what it means to be a teacher— to encourage students to think critically.
