not just mocking, but straight up blasphemy. I’ve been saying this and I will continue to: children of God do not need to be listening to these lyrics. I’m going to get called every name under the sun for saying this because it’s not popular. but “popularity” isn’t what we are called to seek in this hour as Kingdom-minded women. Taylor Swift doesn’t need to be on your playlist, she needs to be on our prayer list. it’s not news to anyone that things have changed drastically from the Teardrops on My Guitar era. and look, it’s okay if you’ve listened to Taylor Swift — I’ve been there too. in fact, for years and years and years I was that girl… I was a fan of the songs and how catchy they were. how much I could relate to her lyrics through any season of life. her “reputation” album struck a chord with me as I navigated some of the hardest years of my life. I’d say “this is my song” and start singing those lyrics over my situation. and that is where the conviction of the Holy Spirit started to gently set in and oh how I’m so glad that it did. I was partnering with word curses. because the power of life and death is in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). the music we choose to listen to is either drawing us closer to God or to satan. it’s really that simple. “but music is just music” or “it’s just a song, it’s not that deep.” oh but it is. have you not noticed the dire increase in demonic music videos in the last few years? do you really not think there is an agenda behind lyrics that so blatantly mock our Savior?
