🪨 8TH WONDER OF THE WORLD! 📍Lions Rock, Sigiriya A UNESCO World Heritage Site rising 200 meters (660 feet) above the surrounding plains, Sigiriya served as the capital of King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD. The site features extensive ruins of a palace complex, surrounded by an elaborate network of gardens, reservoirs, and defensive structures. One of the most famous features of Sigiriya is the massive Lion Gate, which once guarded the entrance to the royal palace atop the rock. Sigiriya is renowned for its stunning frescoes, known as the Sigiriya maidens, which adorn the rock’s western face. These paintings depict celestial nymphs and are considered masterpieces of ancient Sri Lankan art. ___________ This trek is not for the faint of heart as you have to scale the rock on makeshift stairs and pathways that are extremely narrow and steep rubbing shoulders with everyone you pass with no safety.
