DIES TOMORROW 7/18 at 4 pm or sooner‼️‼️‼️ 107 days ago, #CHLOE #A2774525 walked into the shelter terrified, injured, and in pain. A little 3 year old, 53 lb girl who peaked thru the plexiglass waiting day after day hoping someone would see her. She was believed to have been hit by a car and arrived with a fractured left hock. Instead of giving up, Chloe did what so many resilient dogs do—she started to heal emotionally, even while her leg remained fractured. After just a couple of weeks, the fear began to fade. She sought out affection. She leaned in for pets. She did joyful zoomies despite her injured leg. She showed everyone who she really was—a sweet, loving dog who desperately wanted to trust again. But then the days turned into weeks. The weeks turned into months. And Chloe became another victim of long-term kennel confinement. Hidden away in the back away from public view. Never seen, her voice never heard. No meaningful enrichment. No regular opportunities to get out of her kennel. No plan to help her cope with the frustration and stress that build when a dog is confined day after day. Over 107 days, the happy girl who once sought affection became increasingly frustrated behind the bars. She began lunging at her kennel door—a behavior that can develop in dogs living under chronic stress and confinement. Instead of seeing a dog who needed help, the shelter documented the same observations again and again. The notes were copied and pasted. They say she was “blasted” 17 times. But where was the plan to help her? Where was the effort to address the stress that was changing her behavior? Where was the care for the fractured leg she arrived with? As a “no kill” shelter, they did nothing to treat her medically and they did nothing to rehabilitate her. Now, instead of recognizing that Chloe’s kennel behavior may reflect months of confinement and frustration, they want to end her life. Chloe is not just the worst day she’s had inside a kennel. She is the frightened, injured dog who learned to trust. She is the girl who asked for affection. She is the dog who did zoomies on a fractured leg because her spirit was stronger than her circumstances. She deserves the chance to leave that kennel and show the world who she really is. Please don’t let Chloe become another dog whose life ends because the shelter environment broke her spirit instead of helping her heal.
