I thought copper was best then aluminum & then gold. Gold is used for its non corrosive properties which is why most connections are gold plated. Aluminum is used cause cheaper. Confused.

The speed of signal propagation is not fubdamental. It really depends on inductance L and capacitance C of the line and is 1/sqrt(L C). It may be as high as ~ 0.9 velocity of light but also lower.
