During the Indonesian Confrontation, or Konfrontasi (1963-66), detachments from Tengah were conventionally armed with non-nuclear weapons and participated in regular regional reinforcement exercises. This defense plan was kept so secretive that Tunku Abdul Rahman, then Prime Minister of Malaysia — of which Singapore was a part — was not informed about the 48 nuclear weapons inside his country.
